I created this poster for the music festival Ravinia as part of their annual design contest. The theme for 2025 was “Where The Music Grows.” This was a very rewarding project for me because it pushed me to create a purely illustrative poster without relying on photos or text.
I chose a bright green and blue palette to reflect the vibrant musical atmosphere of Ravinia. Working with the theme of “Where The Music Grows,” I developed the idea of using a spiral gust of wind as a guide for elements to move on. This sense of movement contributed towards the theme of the music “growing” by having the elements ascend towards the Ravinia logo.
In one of the earlier designs of this poster I did not have any musical instruments, and this left the design feeling empty. After some peer feedback I created some musical instruments to bring more musical emphasis to the poster. When creating the instruments I decided to incorporate the color of the leaves into the instruments. This helped to blend the elements together as one visual unit.
