This was a surprisingly challenging but rewarding assignment. This magazine project was given to the whole class with each student designing 6 pages for the magazine. The overall magazine topic was decided by class vote. The category “Film and TV Shows” came out as the winner. Each student had to provide 2 academic articles, one larger article and another half page article. The half-page article was a challenge because it meant keeping the layout very compact to fit all the article text.
Instead of using an article about a specific film or tv show, I decided to feature articles that discussed the production side of film and tv. The large article I chose examined the history and development of widescreen technology. I chose this as my main article because I enjoyed the technical aspects of film and tv production. For my half-page article, I found another interesting article discussing the use of cinema drones.
As for the layout itself, I used one of my own photos for the cover and color scheme. This was a long exposure photo that I took of one of my camera lenses. I then used stock images for the rest of the images. I placed these images near to their relevant text so that they would aid the reader in understanding the content of the article.
